Stuart MAIN

Stuart Main was born in East Angus, Quebec in 1934. After High School, he worked for a pulp and paper company while studying Graphic Arts. After three years of study, he went to Montreal to work as an illustrator. This lasted for more than 30 years. During this time he met other artists who encouraged him to begin landscape paintings.

In 1969 he bought a farm near Bishopton, Quebec, and he lives there since with his wife Violet. Everyday scenes in this region provide subject matter for his paintings. Annual visits to the region of Charlevoix, and occasional trips to Rimouski, Gaspé, Tadoussac, Baie Comeau, and Southern Ontario add to the variety of his work. He is now retired from Graphic Arts and devotes himself to his longtime dream of painting.

His first exhibition in 1985 took place at galerie Martal in Montreal. His work can be found everywhere in Quebec and accross Canada as well.
